I saw P&T at the Rio in late January.

The opening jazz pianist is amazing. Penn plays bass during most of the pianist’s set, incognito and in the shadows, and you won’t even know it’s him unless you’ve read it online. Not a huge jazz fan but it’s hard not to be impressed with these guys’ talent.

The show itself was also jaw-dropping. I went into it going, no way am I going to fall for this magic stuff, I’ll see the gimmicks… but these guys are GOOD. And hilarious! We laughed ’til we cried, and then spent the rest of the night asking each other, “How did they DO that?”

P&T go to the lobby after the show and stay as long as the crowd does, signing autographs and taking pictures. I was as impressed by this as by the show itself. Nice guys, totally down to earth.

Now let me tell you how we got great booth seats for the show.

We went to one of those discount ticket booths that sell same-day tickets, and bought ‘em there. They give you a voucher that you have to exchange at the Rio’s box office for actual seat assignments, so they suggest you go early. We did, and they assigned us to some upper level seats. Was a little bummed but figured hey, they were discount tickets.

When we arrived at the theater, we were told not to go to the elevator but to go straight in. When we did, the usher asked us, “Where would you LIKE to sit? How about here?” and pointed out the empty booths at eye level to the stage (between the lower and upper levels of seating). We were like, “Well, heck yeah!” And the usher said, “Well, I’ll look out for you if you look out for me…” (hint hint) So we gave him a twenty, and got a huge booth rather than theater-style folding seats. Great view of the stage, very comfortable, way cheaper than regular price, AND bought the same day as the performance!

This was an amazing show, lots of audience participation, very fun to watch, and they promise a different show every time. We’ll definitely go again the next time we go to Vegas! Staying on the strip? There’s a free shuttle to the Rio near the Paris hotel.
