We love to stay at the Sahara and as a matter of fact, we stayed there 3 times in 2008.
The Sahara is not a super fancy Strip hotel but the rooms are nice and clean and on par with a Holiday Inn or Ramada. If you're planing to stay there make sure you book a room in the Tangiers Tower, it the newest. Also make sure you get a player's card. When we go, we play enough that our rooms are usually comped.
Our favorite table game at The Sahara is craps. I love the craps dealers as they are always friendly and helpful when you're new. Also, The Sahara has an excellent poker room with dealers that go out of their way to make you feel welcome. The buy-in for the tournament (held daily at 7am, 7pm and 11pm) is $40 with an optional $20 re-buy within the first hour.
We find the service in the coffee shop to be exceptionally slow and try to avoid going there but often pop down to the Caravan Cafe for some breakfast.
Lastly, while we miss the Burn Your Bra Bar in the 60s Party Pit, we do love the addition of the new bar with several microbrews.
All in all I find the staff at The Sahara very friendly and welcoming, the rooms to be a good value and the location nice ideal (during the day we usually take a long walk from The Sahara to the Luxor).
Oh, and PS, I love the pool too.
